Welcome to Class 1's Page

How will grown ups be updated?

Miss Abel will keep grown ups informed with regular updates of our learning in Class 1. We will begin a Class 1 blog on this webpage and there will be a Class 1 Facebook page for The Brow.

The blog will be set up by the end of our first week back at school. Once the blog has been set up, grown ups will need to scroll down to read the blog whenever it is updated. Until then, Miss Abel was very impressed with the children on their first day and looks forward to a lovely year ahead for Class 1smiley!

Grown ups are welcome to speak to Miss Abel or Mrs Quinn if there are any further questions. Alternatively, parents can use children's reading records as a means of communication whenever they require any further information.

Homework, Reading and Spellings

Each half term you will be given a new homework menu to complete linked to our topic learning. Please try to complete one piece each week. Homework books are due in each Monday and are sent home each Wednesday.

Children will be sent home with a school book and reading record. These will be changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Grown ups should sign reading records when children have read.

Please remember to bring in your signed reading record and home reading book every day to school. A class record is updated each day with praise points for reading.

Weekly spellings will be given out on a Monday and spelling tests are administered on a Friday. Our spelling lists will be linked to our Letters and Sounds phonics.

Please learn spellings each night of the week and record your attempts in your spelling journal.

Parliament Loan Box

Today C1 were lucky enough to use the Parliament Loan Box. We listened to a story about a class who went to London to visit the Houses of Parliament.

Whilst they were there, they went inside Westminster Hall, The House of Commons and The House of Lords.

C1 took turns to dress up as a speaker in The House of Commons and looked at some of the props. Then we made our our Houses of Parliament models with The House of Commons inside.

Bog Baby Hunt

Today the children found a Bog Baby in our classroom. We knew he was a wild creature and he didn't belong with us. We were planning to take him back to the pond after lunch but he disappeared. We had to look around school for him. Read the captions below to find out more about our Bog Baby hunt. First we looked around school...

Welcome back to a new school year in year 1 children. Your teacher is Miss Abel and your Teaching Assistant is Mrs Quinn. It is going to be a very exciting year!
