Class 1 Welcome

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the start of Autumn term in Class 1. I hope you have had a lovely holiday! Mrs Quinn and I look forward to welcoming you back.

Please check this page each half term to find out about the current learning journey, class time table and homework. For now, we will be focussing on welcoming children back and have adopted a 'Recovery Curriculum' to help transition children back to school.

Our focus will be on the following text:

Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth: Amazon.co.uk: Jeffers, Oliver, Jeffers, Oliver: Books

We will still be using Seesaw to communicate with parents and carers and your login will be sent home during the Autumn Term so you can link with your child's learning journal. This is similar to the Tapetry accounts the children will have had in Year Reception.

Seesaw Expectations British School of Beijing, Shunyi

I look forward to working with you this year; I can't wait to get started!

Class One Organisation

Children will be introduced slowly and carefully into the school routine and we will build up to a full curriculum when children are fully settled.

PE days will be introduced later in the half term on Wednesday. For now, children will need to come to school wearing their P.E. kits.

Please note there will be no reading records sent home in the first few weeks of school.         We will update you soon with a new routine for reading at home.

The children are encouraged to drink regularly throughout the day. They may wish to bring in a labelled drinks bottle that can be filled with water. They may also wish to bring in a small healthy snack such as a piece of fruit. Fruit and bagels are provided daily.

Autumn Planning

Our big question this half term is:        We will be very busy investigating to find out the answer!

Our text this half term is...

Our Class wow moments

Reading Books.

The children will be sent a new reading book home every Monday and Friday. We would ask that you read together daily.

Grown ups should sign the reading record every time the children read.

The children receive praise points for daily reading. Please ensure you bring book bags in to school each Friday.

The children will change their own books and are responsible for getting them out of their bags first thing in the morning.

We would ask that you read together daily.

Reading is so important across the school so please read with your child!

Spellings and Phonics

The children will be given a weekly spelling list at the beginning of each half term.

These will be linked to our phonics work and will include three high frequency words.

Please help your child to learn spellings each night ready for our spelling challenge on Friday.

Homework.

Each half term the children will be sent a homework menu linked to our learning for the half term.

We ask that the children choose an activity to complete from the grid each week.

Homework books are sent home on Wednesday and should be returned to class on Monday please.

PE

This half term PE will take place on Wednesday and all children will need to wear their outdoor P.E. kits.

The children will be devlopingthier fundamental skills of throwing, catching and running through games.

Please ensure they have full (named) PE kit.

Indoor PE: White t-shirt, navy shorts, black pumps.

Outdoor PE: White t-shirt, navy jogging bottoms, school hoodie and trainers

Classroom Routines.

We follow our school and class rules every day

Be Safe

Be Kind

Be Respectful

Every day the teachers look out for children who are excellent role models to go up on our class shout-out board. We collect praise points and pads throughout the day and every half term we are presented with a certificate and badge for our efforts.

The children will receive praise points for individual behaviours and class points for whole class efforts. When 10 class points have been awarded the children will choose their class reward. If excellent work or achievement has been demonstrated the children may get to visit Mrs Webb and show her their work. In addition, they may get chosen for Mrs Webb's hot chocolate morning or show their work in celebration assembly.

The children will earn rewards for demonstrating positive behaviour, positive attitudes towards learning and working towards our school rules

Every morning we choose a greeter of the day to welcome the children into our room with a high five or a hug.

Our star of the day looks after the lunch and class register.

Our bagel monitor is responsible for returning the bagel box to the kitchen each morning.

We follow our school and class rules every day and Mrs Cottam looks out for children who are excellent role models to go up on our class shout out board. We collect praise points throughout the day and every half term we are presented with a certificate and badge for our efforts.
