Welcome to Class R!

Welcome to Class R at The Brow. We have all settled beautifully in to our new class and we are enjoying learning lots of new things every day.

Remember to check what we have been doing each week in the

 'Our Learning Journey'

section further down the page.

This half term we will be reading the texts...

Planning documents for Summer 2.

Fun in the Sun!

We have been working hard to earn our class points and today we all enjoyed our class treat. Fun in the sun! We had a lovely beach afternoon in the garden with water blasters, sand, paddling, ice cream and a sing song under the trees! What a lovely afternoon children, well done!

Sports Day Superstars!

Despite the rain Class R had a fabulous time competing in our Sports Day. Everyone took part and tried their best to finish the race quickly. Well done everyone.

Cheep, cheep!

This week five fluffy visitors have joined Class R from Acorn Venture Farm. We have two boy chicks and 3 girl chicks to look after, after they hatched out of their eggs last week. We have been enjoying watching the chicks flap their wings, cheep and strut around our floor before having a little cuddle! We are all so excited to have our new guests stay with us. A big thank you to Acorn Farm in Kirkby for loaning them to us.

The Brow World Cup 2018

Today we took part in the Class R World Cup. We were in football teams of 3 and had a super time scoring goals, and working as part of a team in the inflatable pitch! Thank you to Miss Leach for organising it for us. We LOVED it!

Class R go WILD!

This half term we have been exploring the text Where The Wild Things Are. We have explored what the word Wild means, we thought about wild animals, where they would live and what sounds they make.

We used the laptop to create our own wild thing characters before using our phonics skills to describe them.

We wrote to Max with a list of Wild things he could do in his wolf mask and after Max found our list he visited Class R making mischief! He tied Mrs Geraghty to her chair and then he set off on his mischief making before inviting us to join him! "It was the best day ever!" DG

We used our imaginations to visit the jungle that grew in Max's room, we listened to the sounds we could hear and thought about the sights we might see before creating picture maps in our groups.

We used junk modelling materials to create our own musical instruments so that we could join Max for our very own Wid Rumpus after sailing across the sea to join the Wild Things.

Take a look at the pictures below, we hope you like them!

Happy Royal Wedding Day from EYFS!

Easter Breakfast

This morning Reverend Tony joined us in Class R to tell us all about The Easter Story, he read three stories from his Bible; An Important Meal, A Different Day and Happy Day.
We listened very carefully to his stories and asked some very sensible and thoughtful questions.
We found out that Jesus and his friends ate lamb and bread and they drank wine.
Carter had noticed our tables "We have bread!" he told Reverend Tony.
"This is amazing breakfast!" Barnaby told his friends.
We said a thank you prayer before Reverend Tony left school, we said thank you for our family and for our friends and our yummy breakfast.
The children were beautifully behaved and very thoughtful in what they asked, well done to you all.

World Book Day 2018

What a fabulous World book Day we have had this year. The Cat in the Hat and Little Red Riding Hood joined us on Thursday to read us a story. We loved that it was such a surprise! On Friday we got all dressed up as our favourite book characters, our mums and dads joined us too for the first part of the day. We played with our grown ups, had a garden parade and even snuggled down for a story before they went home. We enjoyed parading for the whole school in assembly and some of us were lucky enough to win certificates for being the best dressed characters. Our Class 6 buddies created and shared stories with us later in the day, they had made each one of us a character in the story, we loved listening with you Class 6, thank you! At the end of the day we each took home our very own World Book Day book to keep. We were all very excited to pick a new book to share with our parents at home.

Class R Remembers.

On Friday we walked to Shopping City to look at our poppy art on display with lots of other Halton school children's. The children were excited to spot their own artwork and made reference to the poppies on display that they particularly liked. The children took great delight in pointing our art work out to the shopping city staff who came over to thank us. Well done children you were beautifully behaved and your artwork was amazing.

Our visit to Chester Zoo.

On Wednesday we went to Chester Zoo with Class One and our buddies in Class 6. We had a brilliant day exploring the zoo and we found lots of animals. We made friends with a very cheeky crown headed crane who was very noisy shouting at us through the fence. We watched the lions and lionesses hunting for their lunch and we even spotted the chimpanzees being very cheeky! We were all beautifully behaved and we had a super day.

Welly Fun!

Today we explored the title of our new book in class The Girl Who Loved Wellies! We thought about why she loved her wellies so much and we wondered what it was she was doing in them that was so fun. We pulled on our wellies and went outside to have some fun of our own. Take a look what we got up to!

Mums and Tots join Reception Class!

Wow what a wonderful first week we had welcoming our Mums, Dads and Tots in to Early Years  on Friday. Thank you to Aidan, Aubrey, Buddy, Emily, Harry, Halle, Imogen and Ruby for joining us. We had lots of fun playing alongside you and we hope you enjoyed it just as much.

Our Warrington Adventure!

On Friday Class R and Class 3G had a very busy, fun filled day in Warrington. We joined Mandy in Warrington museum to explore the art work. We made sound pictures using our voices after exploring what we could see happening in the art work and we played picture statues; posing just like the people in the pictures. After lunch we walked through the town to Build a Bear. We chose a bear for our classrooms, Class R decided a great  name for ours would be Cheeky! The children were very well behaved and had a lovely day. Thank you to all our grown up's who joined us we couldn't have managed without you, we hope you had a good day too.

Our Visit from Dogs Trust

This morning Angela and her dog Bob came to visit us. Angela told us all about Dogs Trust and the work that they do to help the dogs.
Angela thought we were so good we could all stroke Bob the dog. She taught us that when we see a dog we have to ask the owner if we can stroke their dog and if the dog sniffs us that means they want us to stroke them. Bob was very happy to be stroked, we all had very kind, gentle hands. Bob's fur was very soft. Thank you to Miss Leach for organising the morning and to Angela and Bob for coming to visit us!

Homework.

The children will be sent their half term homework menu every Wednesday. The homework menu will have a selection of activities covering different areas of the Early Years Curriculum.

Choose one activity to complete each week.

Homework books should be returned to school on Monday morning.

Reading Books.

The children will be sent home with a reading book on Monday and Friday. Please encourage them to share the books with you, talking about the pictures and finding key words and letter sounds in the text as they develop their reading skills.

Please sign and comment in the reading record book each time you read with your child.

Please help your child to read and recognise the key words in the front of the reading record book.

Looking for and reading signs and labels around the house and in the local area are a good way to develop reading skills.

Book bags should be returned on Monday and Friday please..

Praise Points.

Our children are regularly rewarded for their behaviours and attitudes around school each day. As the children collect points they are rewarded with certificates, merit badges and prizes at 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 praise points.

The children will be awarded praise points for a number of things; attendance, pleasing work, good manners, having the right equipment and displaying good manners to others.

There are sanctions in place for children who don't follow our school rules as outlined in the school behaviour policy.

Our Buddies.

The children have each been allocated a buddy from year 6 to help look after them over the school year. The children will share playtimes, reading activities, art work and trips with their buddies. The younger children look forward to their time with older pupils and friendships quickly blossom between the pairings.
