Home Learning - COVID19

Please read the following information to support you with teaching and learning at home.

I will be posting daily phonics videos on the class Facebook page @missscuttthebrow and also a bedtime story every evening at 6pm. In your packs you have lots of resources taken from www.lettersandsounds.com to assist the teaching of phonics and reading. I suggest that all activities be fun, games led and enjoyable (I will post ideas and suggestions on Facebook each day). Phonics play has lots of games for the children to play on their iPads and Numbots is a fantastic website to support your child in Maths. They can play this mostly independently and work through various levels. Finally, Oxford Owl is an excellent website for reading and decoding (see school's username and password on Tapestry).

You will find suggested activities and worksheets on Tapestry each week for Phonics, Maths and Understanding the World (these activities are suggestions and optional). You will be able to contact me on this email address katie.scutt@thebrowcp.co.uk if you have any questions about the work or are concerned about anything. The children’s learning is very important to us and we will do what we can to help and support both you and the children.

Remember to share your child's progress and development on Tapestry so that I can comment, respond and add assessments. I look forward to seeing all their amazing work at home.

Reading Books

The children will be sent home with a reading book on Monday and Friday. Please sign and comment in the reading record book each time you read with your child.

Please encourage them to share the books with you, talking about the pictures and finding key words and letter sounds in the text as they develop their reading skills. Please help your child to read and recognise the key words in the front of the reading record book. Looking for and reading signs and labels around the house and in the local area are a good way to develop reading skills.

The children will be sent their half term homework menu every Wednesday.

The homework menu will have a selection of activities covering different areas of the Early Years Curriculum. Choose one activity to complete each week.

Homework books should be returned to school on Monday morning.

Physical Education and Forest School

This half term the children will take part in physical education lessons on a Tuesday and Thursday morning. They will be learning how to move in different ways and dance using different actions.

Please ensure they have full (named) PE kit in school every day.

Indoor PE: White t-shirt, navy shorts, black pumps.

Outdoor PE: White t-shirt, navy jogging bottoms, school hoodie and trainers.

Forest school:

Lessons will take place with Mrs Badger every Wednesday afternoon. Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees. Forest school takes place in all weather conditions so the children will need to come prepared for this lesson. Clothing might inlcude wellington boots, fleeced jacket and winter accessories.

The children will earn rewards for demonstrating positive behaviour, positive attitudes towards learning and working towards our school three school rules:

  1. Be Safe
  2. Be Kind
  3. Be Respectful

The children will receive praise points for individual behaviours and class points for whole class efforts. When 20 class points have been awarded the children will choose their class reward. One child each week will also take home our class bear for the weekend. If excellent work or achievement has been demonstrated the children may get to visit Mrs Webb and show her their work. In addition, they may get chosen for Mrs Webb's hot chocolate morning or show their work in celebration assembly.

Miss Scutt and Miss Barton will always be watching to see who earns a place on our class 'shout out' board for excellent behaviour.

Spring Term One Learning

This half term we have enjoyed learning about The Naughty Bus. We pretended to be the bus by making the classroom very messy! We learned about floating and sinking because the Naughty Bus sank to the bottom of the pond. We have been learning phase 3 sounds and we have made super progress with our reading. In Maths, we made London using different construction materials and blocks.

Autumn Term Two Learning

The children have completed so many enjoyable activities this half term. They took part in their first school performance and sang to their parents. The children made Christmas cookies to sell to their grown ups so that they could raise money for stamps. We hope the parents enjoyed receiving their Christmas cards in the post! We have learned all Phase Two phonics and we are confident with numbers up to five. Finally, the children had a fabulous morning watching 'Snow White' at The Brindley Theatre... we even got the bus back to school.

Autumn Term One Learning

Wow, what a busy half term. The children have settled in so well and have developed meaningful, positive relationships with each other. We have learned about ourselves and shared our experiences during carpet time discussions. The children have really got to grips with the daily routine and have enjoyed learning new sounds as well as number of the week.

Take a look at the pictures below to find out more about what we have been learning.
