Our Learning Journey 2018 - 2019

British Science Week - 2019. Journeys.

Thank you to the children and parents who visited Class R's Hungry Caterpillar themed Science activities on Fri at the Science Fair. We raised an amazing £53.90 and the children are very excited to be looking after class caterpillars as a result after the half term break.

Class R have been busy taking part in lots of different activities as part of science week, we have been thinking about the journeys that take place around our body and in our brains. We made brain hats and practiced using our remembering skills. We used our engineering skills to create tunnels using sand, sticks and pebbles after exploring different tunnel designs around the world. We predicted which house hold materials would journey down our ramps the fastest and we talked about why this happened. We thought about making journeys during the night and ways to keep safe out on the road. We explored different materials and created our own safety vests. We tested them using a torch to see how effective they were. We also thought about the natural journey of a caterpillar life cycle. We learned that caterpillars hatch from an egg, they spin cocoons which they live inside for up to two weeks and when they nibble their way out of the cocoon they are beautiful butterflies. We have been making butterflies and caterpillars in our art work and we have been using pasta shapes to show the life cycle of a caterpillar too.

Our Library Visit

Class R and 3G have enjoyed a triptogether to meet Tracy at Shopping City library. We listened to stories and sang nursery rhymes together. We even got to play the musical instruments. We were all brilliant, thank you to all our grown ups who helped us to get there safely, we hope you enjoyed it too!

Delamere Forest Fun!

Today we visited Santa in Delamere Forest. We were met by our very own Elf Holly Winterberry, who was very kind and helpful taking us to our activities. We made a Christmas reindeer decoration to hang on our Christmas tree, we ate lunch in a tipi, we visited The Wishing Tree and we enjoyed hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows with Smokey Pete at the fire. We even had a little ramble through the forest and helped to make a home for all the elves using logs. Santa checked his list and was pleased to tell us that we were definitely on his nice list! He was very impressed with our manners and excellent listening skills. Well done children and thank you to all our adult helpers.

Homework books should be returned to school on Monday morning.

Reading Books.

The children will be sent home with a reading book on Monday and Friday. Please encourage them to share the books with you, talking about the pictures and finding key words and letter sounds in the text as they develop their reading skills.

Please sign and comment in the reading record book each time you read with your child.

Please help your child to read and recognise the key words in the front of the reading record book.

Looking for and reading signs and labels around the house and in the local area are a good way to develop reading skills.

Praise Points.

Our children are regularly rewarded for their behaviours and attitudes around school each day. As the children collect points they are rewarded with certificates, merit badges and prizes at 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 praise points.

The children will be awarded praise points for a number of things; attendance, pleasing work, good manners, having the right equipment and displaying good manners to others.

There are sanctions in place for children who don't follow our school rules as outlined in the school behaviour policy.

Our Buddies.

The children have each been allocated a buddy from year 6 to help look after them over the school year. The children will share playtimes, reading activities, art work and trips with their buddies. The younger children look forward to their time with older pupils and friendships quickly blossom between the pairings.

Buddy Fun!

Star of the day.

Each day we choose a star of the day to help with classroom jobs and roles. The children have their name displayed on our star of the day board.

Star of the week.

On Friday afternoon we go to our whole school celebration assembly. Each week we choose a child or group of children that have worked particularly well over the week or have accomplished something remarkable to share their achievements with the whole school. The children are rewarded with praise points from Mrs Webb and a celebratory well done from their peers!

PE

PE for Reception will take place on Monday and Wednesday. The children need full PE kit including pumps for indoors and trainers for outdoors.

Classroom Bears.

In class we have our very own bears called Fluffy and Cheeky to look after each day.

Our bears need lots of help in class and are always looking to see who is being a good friend.

Fluffy and Cheeky will be sent home with a different child each Friday.

Our bears will travel with a diary for you to fill in telling us all about your adventures together. Their Brow book bags has everything you need for a fun weekend together. Pyjamas, school uniform and his diary to record all the fun that you have.

Please return our bears to Class R on Monday morning.
